"Here today, gone tomorrow."

Often used to describe something that is fleeting or temporary like happiness, fame or money, this well-known idiom can also be used to describe outsourcing services.

When Los Angeles and Southern California executives bring in outsourcing firms to provide expertise or services, the outsourcer is "here today" while completing the engagement. And then the resource is "gone tomorrow" once the engagement is complete. For businesses that need expertise on a cost-effective, short-term basis, this is a very good thing.

This article reviews four benefits of having outsourcing here today and four benefits of having it gone tomorrow.

In the context of outsourced services in general - and outsourced CFO services to illustrate with an example - the phrase has a very positive connotation. Business leaders can supplement current staff according to bandwidth and expertise needed, save on overhead expenses associated with a full-time employee, and thereby free up capital that can be invested in other more productive areas.
